Hey there!

I’m Kat—your story untangler

I help fiction writers get unstuck, rebuild their confidence, and move their stories from chaos to clarity (with a little tough love and a lot of encouragement).

Hi, I’m Kat Kaymbee (she/her): ADHDer, developmental editor, certified book coach, and unabashed cozy fantasy nerd. I love ampersands and em-dashes, and I won't apologize for any of it.

There’s nothing better than seeing a writer have an “aha!” moment—when the story finally clicks, or a scene that felt impossible suddenly makes sense. I live for those breakthroughs (and for a good plot twist, let’s be honest). Also: tea, cats, and a healthy dose of nerdy book chat.

If you have characters living rent free in your head, but they refuse to get themselves onto the page, or if you've ever stared at your draft and wondered, “Now what?” you’re in good company.

Why I do this

I started Plots & Parchment because I know how overwhelming writing (and revising) can feel, especially if you’re neurodivergent, queer, or just tired of advice that never really fits. I was always the friend who could see the story hiding behind the words and ask the questions that unlocked the next step. Now, I do that for writers like you, so you can finally get your story onto the page the way you imagine it.

Who I work with

I specialize in young adult, new adult, and cozy fiction—especially for writers who want to feel seen and supported. Most of my clients are tackling big dreams, messy middles, and the kind of stories that don’t always fit the mold. If you care about your book and want feedback that’s clear, direct, and a little bit scrappy, we’ll get along just fine.

How I work

My approach is simple: meet you where you are, skip the jargon, and give you feedback you can actually use (concrete next steps, not just a list of problems). No cookie-cutter formulas, no confusion for the sake of “craft.” Just honest, actionable advice and a process that adapts to your needs and your draft. I’m ADHD-affirming, a champion for queer voices, and a big believer in keeping things practical and real.

Story fit & genre preferences

What I love
  • Cozy fantasy and character-driven fantasy
  • Action-and-adventure plots with emotional stakes
  • Young Adult and New Adult
  • Dark cozy and cozy horror
  • Cozy crime and mystery
  • I don't mind a romantic subplot, especially if it features queer, ACE, trans, or non-binary characters
Not the best fit
  • Stories with a deliberately “sappy” tone
  • Explicit gore or graphic violence
  • Traditional epic fantasy with large-scale political or military focus
  • Deeply religious themes

Not sure where your story fits? That's just fine! Not every story fits into a tidy little box. We can meet to discuss what you're working on and see if I'm a good fit for the project.

Ready to get unstuck?

Curious about working with a fiction writing coach or need help finding an editor for your book? Book a call and let’s talk about what your story needs.

Not sure what you need? No worries. Let’s chat about what’s working, what’s not, and how I can help. You don’t need to have it all figured out—just bring your story and your questions. I’ll bring the clarity (and maybe a cat or two).
